Process to Acquire a NRN Certificate in Nepal.

Criteria to obtain a NRN Citizenship in Nepal.                                                 

  1. Must have Nepali ancestor with Nepali Citizenship,
  2. Must have a citizenship of Foreign Country (except SAARC member countries),
  3. Must have Nepali Citizenship annulment certificate,
  4. Must get the passport from the foreign country. (Except SAARC member countries).

Step 1: Submission of documents through Nepali Embassy/Ministry of Foreign Affairs referring to DAO (where ancestors of NRN has got their Nepali Citizenship).

Officer has to verify following documents and assign to District Administration Office [DAO]

  1. Five Forms are required (This is available only in District Administration Office)
  2. Photocopy of Passport taken from that particular foreign country,
  3. Self-Declared Letter of Commitment towards the Constitutions and laws of Nepal,
  4. Proof of having an ancestor to be Nepali citizen, Relationship Verification Certificate, or death certificate of ancestor (if ancestor has expired),
  5. Proof of Nepali citizenship annulment certificate,
  6. Proof that you are resided in any foreign countries except the member country of SAARC,
  7. Your Nepali Citizenship Certificate if you have not returned/ submitted it back. (Original and photocopy).

Step 2: District Administration Office (DAO) inspects the applications and documents and sends them to the ward office.

  • DAO has to verify and inspect the documents; Police Records, validity of passport (mainly) and relative of the applicant NRN has to identify or verify the document (Sanakhat) and send them to the Ward Office for verification.

Step 3: Ward Office verifies and sends all submitted documents with letter to DAO.

  • The ward office registers the application and if all the documents are fulfilled, Ward office provides the letter of Approval within a day.

Step 4: NRN has to take oath regarding the obedience to respect and obey Constitution of Nepal.

  • Oath is taken in District Administration Office(DAO) of respective district and presence of NRN is mandatory.

Step 5: DAO decides to issue the NRN Certificate in presence of NRN.

  • If all the required documents are fulfilled and police record is clear, the DAO issues the NRN Certificate in presence of NRN.
  • In DAO practices, only NRN can receive their citizenships so their presence is a mandatory. 

POINTS TO REMEMBER:

  • During the verification of passport, if there is any doubt on reliability of the passport, DAO can deploy a team who shall verify the details and provide the information within 15 days. If all the conditions are fulfilled, DAO may issue the NRN citizenship.  
  • DAO can check the criminal records of applicant NRN before sending to ward office.
